Assessment of prevalence and load of torquetenovirus viraemia in a large cohort of healthy blood donors.

2020

OBJECTIVES: Torquetenovirus (TTV) is an emerging marker of functional immune competence with the potential to predict transplant-related adverse events. A large-scale epidemiological study was performed to understand how basal values vary in healthy individuals according to age and gender.; METHODS: We tested plasma from 1017 healthy blood donors aged 18-69years. The presence and load of TTV were determined by a real-time PCR assay. A sub-cohort of 384 donors was tested for anti-cytomegalovirus IgG antibodies, and 100 participants were also tested for TTV viraemia on a paired whole blood sample.; RESULTS: The overall prevalence of TTV was 65% (657/1017) with a mean (±SD) growth of 5±4% ever…

Design and validation of a neuroprosthesis for the treatment of upper limb tremor.

2013

Pathological tremor is the most prevalent movement disorder. In spite of the existence of various treatments for it, tremor poses a functional problem to a large proportion of patients. This paper presents the design and implementation of a novel neuroprosthesis for tremor management. The paper starts by reviewing a series of design criteria that were established after analyzing users needs and the expected functionality of the system. Then, it summarizes the design of the neuroprosthesis, which was built to meet the criteria defined previously. Experimental results with a representative group of 12 patients show that the neuroprosthesis provided significant (p <; 0.001) and systematic trem…

Trends in adherence to the Mediterranean diet in South Italy: A cross sectional study

2019

Background and aims: Increasing literature data show that adherence to the Mediterranean diet is undergoing profound changes in recent years, albeit with marked differences across nations. In Italy, one of the cradles of the Mediterranean diet, the literature regarding the trend for Mediterranean diet adherence is conflicting. Thus, we aimed to explore the trends of adherence to the Mediterranean diet in a large cohort of participants living in South Italy, over 20 years from 1985–86 to 2005–06. Methods and results: Cross-sectional study with two evaluations, one made in 1985–86 and another in 2005–06; all participants were adults aged 30–70 years of age. The adherence to the Mediterranean …

Panoramic and skull imaging may aid in the identification of multiple myeloma lesions

2018

Background The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of punched-out lesions in craniofacial bones using three different radiographic protocols in a large cohort of patients. Material and Methods One hundred fifty-five MM patients were evaluated using panoramic and skull (frontal and lateral) radiographs, which were performed in all patients at the time of MM diagnosis. The diagnostic potential for detecting punched-out lesions was compared among the radiographic techniques. Results MM punched-out lesions were identified in 135 (87%) panoramic radiographs, 141 (91%) frontal and 144 (93%) lateral skull radiographs. Punched out-lesions were synchronously present in skull and ja…

Upper respiratory tract SARS-CoV-2 RNA loads in symptomatic and asymptomatic children and adults

2021

ABSTRACTObjectivesThere is limited information comparing SARS-CoV-2 RNA load in the upper respiratory tract (URT) between children and adults, either presenting with COVID-19 or asymptomatic. Here we conducted a retrospective, single center study involving a large cohort of SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals to address this issue.Patients and MethodsA total of 1,184 consecutive subjects (256 children and 928 adults) testing positive for SARS-COV-2 RNA in nasopharyngeal exudates (NP) were included, of whom 424 (121 children and 303 adults) had COVID-19 not requiring hospitalization and 760 (135 children and 625 adults) were asymptomatic close contacts of COVID-19 patients. Diagnostic Performance of 68Ga-PSMA-11 Positron-emission-tomography/Computed-tomography in a Large Cohort of Patients with Biochemical Recurrence of …

2020

Gallium-68 (Ga) prostate-specific-membrane-antigen positron-emission-tomography/computed-tomography is a highly promising method for imaging primary and recurrent prostate cancer. These dual-modality imaging technologies enable whole-body functional and anatomical evaluation in a single session. This study investigated the performance of Ga-prostate-specific-membrane-antigen-11 positron-emission-tomography/computed-tomography for detecting prostate carcinoma in patients with rising prostate-specific-antigen after primary therapy. Six hundred sixty (660) patients with biochemical recurrence referred for positron-emission-tomography/computed-tomography with Ga-prostate-specific-membrane-antig…

Identifying individual differences using log-file analysis: Distributed learning as mediator between conscientiousness and exam grades

2018

Abstract Online learning poses major challenges on students' self-regulated learning. This study investigated the role of learning strategies and individual differences in cognitive abilities, high school GPA and conscientiousness for successful online learning. We used longitudinal log-file data to examine learning strategies of a large cohort (N = 424) of university students taking an online class. Distributed learning, the use of self-tests and a better high school GPA was associated with better exam grades. The positive effect of conscientiousness on exam grades was mediated by distributed learning. Conscientious students distributed their studying over the course of the semester, which…

Observatoire francophone des néoplasies endocriniennes multiples de type 1. Un outil du Groupe d'étude des Tumeurs Endocrines (GTE)

2007

Wermer's syndrome or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type-1 (MEN1) is an autosomal dominant inherited disease, related to mutations in MEN1, an approximately 10-kb gene encoding menin, localized on chromosome 11q13. The Endocrine Tumor Group (GTE) has set up a MEN1 observatory of 1001 regularly followed MEN1 cases. This observatory aims at registering and evaluating MEN1 cases in a large cohort. Any new study on a particular unexplored aspect of the disease may be proposed by a physician to the GTE. This article describes the way to diagnose a new MEN1 case and to register it. Procedures for participating in a new study are presented. Some original results are quoted.

Prevalence, risk factor burden, and severity of coronary artery disease in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia hospitalized for …

2019

Individuals with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) are at high risk of early myocardial infarction (MI). However, coronary artery disease (CAD) burden of FH remains not well described, especially for French patients. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of FH and severity of CAD from a large database of a French regional registry of acute MI.All consecutive patients hospitalized for an acute MI in a multicenter database from 2001 to 2017 were considered. FH was diagnosed using an algorithm adapted from the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network criteria. The prevalence and clinical features of FH and the severity of CAD were assessed.Among the 11,624 patients included i…
